In WelcomeHome, you have the option of including a second resident in a prospect profile and/or a unit. A second resident is someone who will be occupying a unit with someone else, either because they are partners or because the unit can accept two individuals.
To avoid occupancy issues, we've created a second resident toggle that can be turned on and off. When turned on, the unit will have an S at the end to indicate it is the second resident portion of the unit. It will count the resident who resides there, but it will not count the unit. When used correctly in a scenario where two people are occupying a unit, you will see the residents total at two but the unit total at one. A good way to remember how to use the second resident toggle is that you turn that on if the individual on the housing contract is the second resident.
An important thing to keep in mind is this should only be used for an individual resident who is occupying a unit with someone else. If you have both people on one housing contract, WelcomeHome will automatically calculate them correctly as multiple residents in a single unit. However, if they are on the same housing contract and the second resident toggle is turned on, then the unit will not count at all on your occupancy board. In our original scenario with two people living together, if that second resident toggle was on it would show 2 residents but 0 units.
Similarly, if you have a couple occupying a unit and they are on separate housing contracts, there should only be one person with the second resident toggle turned on. If they share a prospect profile, the person with this enabled should be the same person who is listed in the prospect profile of the housing contract. If they do not share a prospect profile, just select one person to be the second resident.
