Privacy Levels can be denoted when scheduling move-ins to help distinguish and keep track of your single/private or shared rooms within your community.
Each incoming resident will need to have a privacy level selected. This can be done when you are entering a unit and the move-in date for this future resident.
Unit Occupancy Points Overview
Single Private Unit
If you have rooms that are built into your Occupancy Board as separate units that can only be occupied by one person at a time, then you would select a “Private” privacy level, because only one resident will be filling the entirety of the unit. For example, if you have a unit 101 that is only capable of holding one occupant, you will mark the privacy level as “private when moving a resident into this unit.
Contract set up
Unit Count
A “Shared” or "Companion" privacy level should only be used to split a room in half, not to denote that someone is sharing a dedicated half of a room:
Shared A & B Privacy Levels / Counting Doorknobs
For example, you have unit 101 and it has 2 beds. If you select a privacy level of “Shared” this will split the room into Side A and Side B. A resident may move into either side, so when selecting “Shared” privacy level, you will be prompted to select whether or not they are going to occupy side A or B.
Also, note that with two residents that are not on the same housing contract and are split into A and B sides, you are able to affect their resident status individually!
Let’s say you move a resident into 101A with a Shared privacy level, side 101B will show as Vacant until you move a resident into this side. Both sides A and B will need to have a resident in order for the unit to be “fully occupied”. This would most likely be a mistake, splitting an already split room, and would cause issues on your Occupancy Board.
If each unit on your unit count represents a room, then you would have two residents that are “sharing” a room, giving a 0.5 occupancy point to each one.
Single A & B Units / Counting Beds
You may have some units that are built out as separate units meant to hold one occupant with A and B in their title. Let’s say you have unit 101A and 101B in your community and these are two separate units, each capable of holding one resident. You would also select a privacy level of “private” in this event, because only one occupant can fill each of these units privately.
Unit set up
Occupancy Board
If your unit count is counting beds, those people are privately occupying each bed, and would thus be “single” or “private” and giving them 1 occupancy point to each.
'A' and 'S' Units
In some communities, you might have the option to mark 'S' on the privacy level. This stands for spouse and would only be used in a scenario where you have separate prospect profiles for each of the two members of the couple.
You will move one member of the couple into side 'A' and the other into Side 'S'. The 'S' will count as a resident but not affect the occupancy percentage, this way you can reflect an accurate resident count without changing your occupancy numbers (since the two of them are on the same housing contract).
Resident "A"
Resident "S"
Second Residents (With Both Names on the Exact Same Contract)
In a scenario where you have a couple on the same housing contract with the same move in date, you will be moving them into the same room. If you have selected a unit and move in date, confirm that both of them are confirmed as residents on the “Unit and Deposit” tab, with the boxes next to their name checked, like so:
Then, when they move in, they should show on the Occupancy Board like this:
